MAC Cosmetics recently released their Moody Blooms Collection. Even though it’s a summer release, this is a collection you will definitely want to wear for Fall 2014. Looking at the promotional images this collect was inspired by sensual flowers and lush green rain forests. The tones work for an exotic mix of jewel tones, plums, red, berry, teal, bronze, green, pink and violet. I didn’t get the whole collection because I’m too practical to buy something that I know will not complement my brown skin tones (and I’m not a makeup artist, or I would indulge and just use this whole collection on clients). I think there is something for every skin tone in this collection and it’s on of the best I’ve seen from MAC this year. I just love the variety of colors in this collection. Amazing.
Here are my picks from the Moody Blooms Collection:
- Eyeshadow in Lucky Green – shimmery yellowish green (Veluxe Pearl) – $15.00
- Fluidline Eyeliner in Copperthorn – metallic bronze/copper – $16.00
- Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Moody Bloom – a great bronze color – $16.00
- Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Lust Extract – a pink tone with a lot of violet mixed in – $16.00
What I love most: I have to say that the Copperthorn and Moody Bloom are must haves. I love these two colors and think they would look amazing on brown skin girls of all hues.
I’m not a fan of the wearability of the lip colors because they reminded me too much of a gloss. They didn’t dry out my lips though, so that’s a blessing. With a good lip liner you’ll be fine and avoid some feathering (sorry, no liner in the try on…I know, I know). The Moody Bloom color is still excellent, I would just like more coverage in a lipstick. That being said, this color is now one of my favorite and can be worn all day, work to party. I was not wowed by the pink/violet tone of Lust Extract. Just not my color and too see through (you could put a similar lip color underneath for more coverage).
I really love the Copperthorn color. It’s a perfect copper bronze color. The type of color you can wear with a very natural eyelid for a strong look. It was a tiny bit difficult to apply because there are some glittery flakes in the product, but that’s the only because I’m not a makeup artist. I’m sure this product would also look amazing smudged all over a lid.
This green is full of gold on darker skin tones and it looks amazing. At first, I thought it would be on the neon side, but no, no, no. Lots of shimmer and a perfect chartreuse type of green. It is a very summer-y color, but because of the gold tone, you could get away with it in the fall.
I put on Lucky Green with Copperthorn and MAC’s Sketch just to give you an idea of an eye look with both. Yep, that’s Moody Bloom on my lips.
